To promote the component configurations requires a manual intervention to execute the exported queries from one environment to the other. The ability to import metadata resolves this challenge by avoiding the need for manual executing the exported queries for promoting changes. Promoting the configuration can now be easily done by exporting the metadata from a lower environment and importing it in a higher environment. 

For example, you can move metadata from lower environments such as SIT or UAT to Production.
