6. Create a Dashboard (Workspace)

Workspace or Dashboard is the top most container of the application within the browser. It acts as a bucket that holds the sub-workspaces and apps, which paves the way for a customized representation.

A brief overview on creating a dashboard (workspace) in Canvas Studio is provided as follows:

  1. In Canvas Studio, click Workspace Designer.
  2. Clickto create a new workspace. 
  3. In the App Resource bundle field, provide the bundle key of the associated property file. 
  4. Select the appropriate Product and Sub-Product Codes. 
  5. Provide a unique name in the Workspace ID field.

    No blank spaces and special characters should be used in the Workspace ID field. The underscore symbol can be used.

  6. Click Proceed
  7. Click theicon to create a new sub-workspace. 
  8. Provide a unique name for the sub-workspace in the Display Name field. 
  9. In the App Resource bundle field, provide the bundle key of the associated property file. 
  10. Provide a unique name in the Sub Workspace ID field. 

    No blank spaces and special characters should be used in the Sub Workspace ID field. The underscore symbol can be used.

  11. Provide appropriate Product and Sub-Product codes for the sub-workspace. 
  12. Click Proceed
  13. Clickto add apps. 
  14. After selecting the apps of your choice, click Add
  15. Clickto save the workspace. 


The step-by-step procedure to create a workspace in Canvas Studio is listed as follows:

  1. On the home page of Canvas Studio, click Workspace Designer.  




  2. Clickto create a new Workspace.



  3. Enter an appropriate title in the Workspace Title field, e.g. ACCOUNT SUMMARY DETAILS
    1. In the Resource Bundle field, enter the name of the bundle key associated with the property file, e.g. common.
    2. Enter an appropriate ID in the Workspace ID field, e.g. ACCOUNTSUMMARYDETAILS_WS.
    3. Select the appropriate Product and Sub-Product Codes. For detailed information on Product, Sub-Product and Function Codes, refer Configuring Entitlements and Creating Product, Sub-Product and Function Codes.
    4. Click Proceed

    On entering the Workspace Title, the Workspace ID gets filled automatically. However, you can still apply changes to the Workspace ID. No blank spaces and special characters should be used in the Workspace ID field. The underscore symbol can be used. During the creation of a workspace, you can edit the Workspace ID field. However, while editing a workspace, you cannot apply changes to the Workspace ID field.




  4. Clickicon to create a new sub-workspace. 



  5. Enter an appropriate display name in the Display Name field, e.g. ACCOUNT SUMMARY SUBWORKSPACE
    1. In the Resource Bundle field, enter the name of the bundle key associated with the property file, e.g. common.
    2. Enter an appropriate ID in the Sub Workspace ID field, e.g. ACCOUNTSUMMARYSUBWORKSPACE_SWS.
    3. Select the appropriate Product and Sub-Product Codes. For detailed information on Product, Sub-Product and Function Codes, refer Configuring Entitlements and Creating Product, Sub-Product and Function Codes.
    4. Click Proceed

  6. After creating the sub-workspace, select the layout for the workspace to arrange the sub-workspace(s) in the workspace. The available workspace layouts are:
  7. Select the Sub Workspace layout to arrange the apps in sub workspace(s). The available Sub Workspace layouts are:
    • One column
    • Two column
    • Three column
    • Four column
    • Five column
    • Six column
    • Carousel

      The position of the black line at the center, denotes the number of columns present in the sub-workspace layout. 

  8. You can even choose the layout of the web page. The available options are: 
    • Fluid
    • Fixed

    By default, the Fluid option is selected. 

  9. Click the Lookupicon to add apps. 




  10. Select the ACCOUNT_SUMMARY_CHART_APP and ACCOUNT_SUMMARY_DETAILS_WGT apps and click Add.



  11. Drag and Drop the ACCOUNT_SUMMARY_DETAILS_WGT to the first position.



  12. Click icon to save the app.



    A confirmation message, indicating a successful save appears. 



  13. Click Ok
