In App Designer, the Template Designer option enables you to insert content as header or footer to grid widgets (app). When end-users export the grid widgets in the application (e.g. ModelHouse), the template content is displayed along with the business data in the exported file.

The following screenshot shows the exported contents of a grid widget along with the template content:


Perform the following steps in order to create a grid app with collated template content:

  1. Create individual data sources and build a data source aggregator using Data Builder option in Canvas Studio. The Data Builder is used to collate data from multiple data sources.

    Refer steps 1 to 10 from Creating Data Aggregator for Complex Report - Sample 2 for more information on creating a data source aggregator.

  2. Create a grid app using App Designer option in Canvas Studio.

    Refer Basic App Configuration - Simple Grid - 19.1 for more information on creating a grid app.

  3. Click Designer option in App Designer window to design the app template.

    The Template Designer page appears with the list of header and footer options on the left-hand side of the page and the list of columns from the selected data source on the right-hand side of the page.


  4. Select the type of the field to be designed.
  5. Select the column layout ( ). By default, a section with single-column (stack) layout is displayed and they can be altered from single-column (stack) to six-columns.
  6. Select the data source required from the given drop-down list.
  7. Drag and drop those columns into the section.
  8. If you want to add additional sections, click Add Sub-Section, drag and drop the required columns into that section.

    1. If you select the report layout ( ), you can drag and drop the reports into the section.

      The report layout is only applicable for the PDF format.

    2. If you select the content layout ( ), you can create a content by clicking Add Content and drag and drop it into the section.

    The content layout is only applicable for the PDF format.

  9. Click Save ( ) icon, go back to the App Designer page and save the app.

  10. Map the grid app in a Workspace.
  11. Open the workspace in application (e.g. ModelHouse), click more option and select Export > Export to PDF option.
