Multi Tenant Capabilities
What is Multi-Tenancy?
Multi-tenancy is an architecture in which a single instance of a software application serves multiple customers. Each customer is called a tenant. Tenants may be given the ability to customize some parts of the application, such as the color of the user interface (UI) or business rules, but they cannot customize the application's code.
Canvas Technology enables the tenant users to clone the application's existing widgets, data connections and data sources but they will not able to edit the existing ones.
Differences between Single and Multi Tenants
Single Tenant | Multi Tenant |
Single tenancy is that a single instance of the software and supporting infrastructure serve a single customer. | Multi-tenancy is that a single instance of the software and its supporting infrastructure serves multiple customers. |
With single tenancy, each customer has his or her own independent database and instance of the software. Essentially, there is no sharing happening with this option. | Each customer shares the software application and also shares a single database. Each tenant's data is isolated and remains invisible to other tenants. |
Advantages of Multi-Tenancy over Single Tenant Users
- It is less expensive when compared to the single tenant hosting architecture, since, multiple tenant customers shares the operational cost.
- An offering of pay-for-what-you-need pricing models.
- Tenants don't have to worry about updates, since they are pushed out by the host provider.
- Tenants don't have to worry about the hardware their data is being hosted on.
- Providers only have to monitor and administrate a single system.
- The architecture is easily scalable.
